Aakash Chopra shared his opinion on Delhi camp’s decision to bat Rishabh Pant lower down the order in DC vs MI.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has raised questions about the Delhi Capitals’ decision to send Rishabh Pant lower down the batting order during their recent IPL 2024 loss against the Mumbai Indians.
In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the popular commentator analyzed the Capitals’ chase and expressed his belief that Pant should have batted at number three.
“You are rarely successful in a 234-run chase. However, they gave it a fight. Here, I have a question. Prithvi Shaw was playing well. David Warner had gotten out—no issues. However, who came to bat at No. 3—Abhishek Porel? Nothing against the kid; he is very good; he once hit Harshal Patel for 25 runs in the last over, but it was Rishabh Pant’s spot,” Chopra pointed out in his video.
Chopra further emphasised, “Rishabh Pant should have come. Why didn’t you come? You didn’t give yourself time. Abhishek Porel did whatever he could. He was running close to a strike rate of 150, which is not a bad outcome, but you were chasing 234.”
Chopra then acknowledged Tristan Stubbs’ effort with a quickfire knock. However, he also opined that the target was too much for Delhi to chase. “Tristan Stubbs came later and kept you alive for some time. He kept hitting sixes. He scored 70-odd runs in very few balls. However, you had to lose in the end because the runs were too many. Delhi have lost another game, and their situation is like Bengaluru’s,” concluded Aakash.
Apparently, Chopra tried to point out the batting order shortcoming of Delhi with Pant, which might have impacted the team’s loss. Nevertheless, MI booked their first win of the IPL 2024, while DC continues with four losses out of their five matches. The Delhi camp will next face LSG on April 12th.
