Aakash Chopra highlighted Virat Kohli’s poor track record against Rajasthan Royals, particularly at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, suggesting a need for a fresh start and improved performance.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra highlighted Virat Kohli’s inconsistent performance against Rajasthan Royals (RR), particularly at RR’s home ground, as a point of concern for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans.
However, with Kohli’s impressive form in IPL 2024, accumulating 203 runs in four innings, hopes are high for a turnaround. In anticipation of the IPL 2024 clash in Jaipur on April 6, Chopra emphasized Kohli’s pivotal role and the widespread anticipation surrounding his performance. Despite Kohli’s previous struggles against RR, Chopra encouraged optimism and emphasized the need for a fresh start.
“The player I am going to talk about first, I feel the entire world and even the aliens’ focus will be on him because his name is Virat Kohli. Will he score runs in this match? There is a disturbing kind of stat for the Virat Kohli fans. Amongst all teams, his numbers against Rajasthan Royals are close to the bottom of the table,” Chopra analyzed on his YouTube channel.
“If we see all the grounds, his numbers at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium are close to the bottom of the table. So you feel that this guy hits everyone but not against them, hits everywhere else but not at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. I believe that let bygones be bygones and a new story needs to be written now,” he added.
Aakash Chopra also identified Glenn Maxwell as a key player to watch out for against RR. Despite facing formidable opponents like Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin, Maxwell has a track record of performing well against RR, showcasing his ability to score runs even in challenging matchups.
Additionally, Chopra highlighted Reece Topley as a crucial bowler for RCB, particularly due to his past success against Jos Buttler. However, he expressed skepticism about Faf du Plessis’ batting form, suggesting that Mahipal Lomror may replace Rajat Patidar in the starting XI to allow Cameron Green to bat at No. 3.
