Aakash Chopra criticized the Mumbai Indians batting lineup and commented on the underperforming batters, especially Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has cast a critical eye on the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) batting lineup, particularly their top three batters, ahead of their crucial IPL 2024 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.
Currently languishing in ninth place on the points table with only three wins from ten matches, the Mumbai Indians’ playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Chopra pinpointed the batting, especially the top order’s struggles, as a major cause for concern for MI in their recent away matches.
“When they were on the road—Rajasthan, Delhi, and Lucknow—they lost in all three places, and the thing that used to be their strength disappointed them in all three places. I am not talking about bowling at all. If your batting is not scoring runs, how can it be your strength?” asked the commentator.
Chopra further elaborated on the specific struggles of key batters Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan. “The batting had a lot of potential, but that hasn’t been seen. Yadav’s form has gone south. He was dismissed early in all three games: Rajasthan, Delhi, and Lucknow. It was the same story for Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan as well,” he added.
However, he shed a light of hope on Friday’s game and backed Rohit Sharma. “If your top three don’t play well, you cannot play well. So I am going with Rohit one more time. Score runs, although there will be a left-arm pacer in front of you if he is there because Mitchell Starc is also so expensive. I am hoping Rohit does well for his, the team, and the Indian fans’ sake,” added Chopra.
Notably, Yadav has bagged 46 runs in his last three innings. Ishan Kishan has amassed 52 runs in his last three knocks. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has not reached double figures in any of his last three knocks.
Moreover, Chopra remains concerned with MI’s batting skills, especially those of Yadav and Rohit, urging them to turn the table against KKR on May 3rd.
