AB de Villiers has acknowledged his error in sharing purported news about Virat Kohli’s family, retracting his statement and admitting to spreading false information.
Speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s absence from the ongoing England Test series has intensified due to unconfirmed reports. Initially named in India’s squad, Kohli withdrew citing personal reasons, prompting assumptions about the impending arrival of his second child.
AB de Villiers added fuel to the rumors, affirming Kohli’s prioritization of family on his YouTube channel.
“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that,” de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
Despite the speculation, the exact reason for Kohli’s absence remains undisclosed, leaving fans to contemplate the superstar’s situation amidst the series.
However, De Villiers has now admitted his error, acknowledging that he spread misinformation about Kohli’s absence. He emphasized the importance of family and expressed regret for sharing false information.
“Absolutely family comes first, it’s a priority, as I said on my YouTube show. Also, I made a terrible mistake at the same time and yeah, sharing false information which was not true at all. No one knows what’s happening,” he told news agency IANS.
“That’s all I can do is wish him well and I think the whole world that follows Virat and that enjoys his cricket, must just wish him well, and whatever the reason is for this break. Really hope that he comes back stronger, better, healthier, and fresh,” he added.
Kohli may return for the remaining three Tests against England, but the BCCI hasn’t confirmed his availability. Media reports suggest he could miss the entire series.
