Hardik Pandya’s outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup was gracefully acknowledged by South African star AB de Villiers.
Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers lauded Pandya’s resilience and game-changing performance. On his YouTube channel, de Villiers acknowledged the “rollercoaster” Pandya experienced with the Mumbai Indians and the criticism he endured. He highlighted the significance of Pandya being entrusted with the ball in the World Cup final.
“A guy like Hardik Pandya… got the ball from the captain in the final of the T20 World Cup. That was his moment to go, ‘You know what? All Indian fans out there, this is what I am about as a cricket player,'” de Villiers said.
De Villiers, though playful about his desire for Pandya not to succeed, expressed his newfound respect for the all-rounder. “He made everyone proud out there… To all you Mumbai Indians fans out there who doubted him, I’m pretty sure he has secured a spot in your hearts for the future,” he added.

Notably, Hardik Pandya’s journey to the 2024 T20 World Cup victory was far from smooth. After a controversial move from the Gujarat Titans to the Mumbai Indians as captain, Pandya faced immense criticism from fans, including boos and slurs throughout the IPL season.
Despite the negativity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and selectors remained confident in his abilities. This faith proved justified as Pandya delivered several match-winning performances throughout the World Cup. Notably, his bowling brilliance in the finals against South Africa at Kensington Oval secured India a thrilling seven-run win.
