Afghanistan achieved a historic victory over Australia in their Super 8 match at Arnos Vale in Saint Lucia and the Grenadines during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Defending a total of 148 runs, Afghanistan bowled out Australia for 127 runs. Skipper Rashid Khan expressed his joy on social media, highlighting the importance of belief and pride in the team’s performance.
Australian batter Usman Khawaja also praised Afghanistan’s performance, calling them the better team on the day and acknowledging their inspirational impact both at home and abroad.

On the match front, Pat Cummins took three wickets and spinner Adam Zampa supported him with two dismissals as Australia faced Afghanistan. In the second half, Afghanistan bowled with determination, quickly breaking down Australia’s batting lineup. Gulbadin Naib led the charge with a four-wicket haul, while Naveen-ul-Haq added three wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, and Rashid Khan each took one wicket, successfully bundling out Australia 21 runs short of the target.
This win not only boosted Afghanistan’s chances of reaching the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 but also showcased their bowling strength.
