South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, admitted to batting struggles but remains confident in his team’s ability to perform well in the T20 World Cup semi-final.
South Africa stands as one of the two undefeated teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. However, unlike India, their victories have not been convincing. They have emerged victorious in close encounters against USA (18 runs), England (7 runs), and West Indies (3 wickets) during the Super Eight stage. Now, they face a crucial semi-final match against Afghanistan.
Ahead of this high-pressure clash, captain Aiden Markram acknowledged their batting struggles throughout the tournament. He conceded that challenging conditions and occasional soft dismissals have hampered their performance.

“From a batting point of view, we’ve shown good signs but not been at our best. Sometimes it’s due to the conditions being quite tough, and other times we just give it away. The opportunity lies in the fact that we haven’t put a complete game of cricket together yet. We have trust that if we can achieve that, it puts us in a really good position,” Markram admitted, as quoted by Sowetan Live.
Markram emphasised the importance of team spirit and resilience. “The environment you are able to create in the changeroom, along with experience, plays a big role in how things look on the field. Guys have a lot of trust in each other and are willing to put everything on the line for each other. What you see from an actions perspective on the field, along with the effort, has helped to put us in a really nice position,” concluded Markram.
