Alyssa Healy expressed her dismay after being dismissed for 99 in a one-off Test against South Africa, revealing she spent 15 minutes in the shower reflecting on the missed milestone.
Australian women’s cricket team captain, Alyssa Healy, experienced deep disappointment after falling for 99 runs during the one-off Test against South Africa in Perth. Her dismissal, a thick edge off Delmi Tucker, came in the second-last over of Day 1, denying her a century. Despite playing superbly with 16 fours off 124 balls, Healy joined the list of cricketers dismissed for 99 in Test innings.
Reflecting on the missed milestone, she confessed to spending 15 minutes in the shower, later sharing a humorous moment with her husband, Mitchell Starc, who also encountered a similar fate in Test cricket.
“I sat in the showers for 15 minutes after getting out. I don’t really play for personal milestones but we don’t play Test cricket that much. So it stings a little bit. Mitch said, ‘If there’s one thing in our cricket careers I can relate to, it’s getting out for 99’. What a unique sport we play. And what a unique relationship we have that we can have these weird moments. But at least we can share that one for the rest of our lives,” Alyssa Healy said to Fox Cricket.
In 2013, Starc faced a similar incident, getting out for the same score against India in Mohali, where Ishant Sharma claimed his wicket, caught behind by MS Dhoni.
On the match front, Australia has a strong position in the ongoing Test after dismissing the tourists for 76. Despite a shaky start at 12-3, Healy and Mooney’s partnership of 155 put them ahead. Ending Day 1 with a lead of 175, Gardner’s 65 and Sutherland’s 200+ have boosted their lead to over 400.
