In response to RCB’s Eliminator loss, former CSK batter Ambati Rayudu criticized Faf and Co.’s reliance on celebrations and aggression.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s journey in the IPL 2024 playoffs was cut short on Wednesday. They were defeated by the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator match, dashing their hopes of winning the IPL title for a record-extending 17th consecutive season.
Former Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu took a critical dig at RCB after their loss. During the Star Sports broadcast, Rayudu commented that “IPL Trophy are not won by celebrations and aggression. IPL Trophy is not won by just beating CSK. To win the IPL trophy you will have to play well in the Playoffs.”
Despite the loss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis expressed pride in his team’s performance to reach the playoffs. “Looking back, with the dew arriving later, we might have been a few runs short with the bat. We were probably 20 runs shy of a good score. But credit to the boys, they fought hard, which is all you can ask for,” Faf admitted.

Du Plessis acknowledged the changing dynamics of the IPL with the introduction of the impact player rule. “Based on the pitch and conditions, we thought 180 would be a good score due to the swing upfront and slowness of the pitch. However, with the impact player and the dew factor, the par score isn’t enough anymore,” Faf explained.
“I’m extremely proud of the team. Many teams would have crumbled after losing their first nine games. To come back and win six consecutive matches shows a lot of heart and character. We just weren’t able to push for those extra 20 runs with the bat tonight,” concluded the RCB skipper.
