Ambati Rayudu slyly critiqued Virat Kohli’s individual efforts while playing for RCB after KKR won IPL 2024.
Ambati Rayudu has been the centre of debate for a while now because of his biased commentaries for CSK and targeted criticisms at RCB. Recently, he came back at it after KKR’s IPL 2024 win. The former cricketer took a sly dig at RCB’s star batter, Virat Kohli.
Speaking on Star Sports, Rayudu said, “Over the years, it is not the orange cap that wins you the titles but contributions like 300 runs each or 400 runs each,” certainly hinting at Virat Kohli, who ended the tournament donning the orange cap for highest runs in IPL 2024.
Despite a late surge that saw them sneak into the playoffs after a string of six defeats, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2024 campaign ended with a whimper in the eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals. The IPL title continues to escape the star-studded franchise, which has boasted players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Mitchell Starc, and Shane Watson over the years.

RCB’s auction strategy also came under scrutiny, with expensive acquisitions like Alzarri Joseph seeing limited playing time early on. Another cause for concern was Glenn Maxwell’s underwhelming performance. Despite a mid-season break, the batting star failed to live up to expectations and could be released for the upcoming mega-auctions.
While Virat Kohli remained a pillar of consistency for RCB, the team as a whole lacked unity. Rajat Patidar’s late resurgence and Yash Dayal’s flashes of brilliance were bright spots, but overall, RCB’s season was a frustrating mix of missed opportunities and inconsistent play.
