Former Indian bowler Ashish Nehra raised concerns over Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence from the South Africa tour, underlining the pacer’s potential value amidst the selection of numerous fast bowlers.
Despite Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence from recent Indian cricket team line-ups since November 2022, the seasoned right-arm fast bowler has stayed dedicated to the sport behind the scenes, showcasing his prowess in domestic tournaments. His impressive performance in the UPT20 and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023, where he claimed a significant number of wickets, has reignited discussions about his exclusion from the upcoming South Africa tour.
Ashish Nehra expressed his concern, acknowledging the selectors’ choices but emphasizing the importance of keeping an eye on Bhuvneshwar’s capabilities, hinting at the need for his potential inclusion.
“I am not at all surprised that the selectors have picked three different teams. Pretty much everyone’s name has come. There might be hardly any player who is there or thereabouts whose name is not there. Only one name comes to my mind, because you are going to South Africa, and you have picked a lot of fast bowlers, and that name is Bhuvneshwar Kumar. I understand that you have other new-ball options, you have Arshdeep Singh, and Mukesh Kumar is playing,” said Nehra when speaking to Jio Cinema.
“However, if you see all the options, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is an experienced bowler who I would say is still doing well. The selectors should keep an eye on him. They shouldn’t forget him, especially when you talk about T20 and 50-over formats,” he added.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar remains in Sun Risers Hyderabad’s plans as they uphold their trust in the seasoned campaigner for the forthcoming season, with the IPL Mini Auction scheduled to take place on December 19th in Dubai.
