PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that no decision has been made yet regarding Babar Azam’s captaincy, with plans to consult head coach Gary Kirsten, assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, and former players.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that no decision has been made yet regarding Babar Azam‘s future as captain. Naqvi plans to consult with head coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood about the team’s poor performance in the recent T20 World Cup.
Naqvi had previously criticized the team’s performance, suggesting significant changes following their early exit from the tournament after losses to India and the United States. He stressed the importance of careful deliberation rather than making hasty decisions based on anger or social media opinions, aiming to avoid further complications for Pakistan cricket.
“I have asked them (Kirsten and Mahmood) to come here as I want to talk to them in person and in detail based on Kirsten’s report on the World Cup,” Naqvi was quoted as saying to the media.
“Kirsten has given a very detailed report on the team and it will help us a lot to chalk out our future course of action. No decision taken so far related to Babar Azam. One former player has submitted a very comprehensive report on what needs to be done to improve cricket. But I will take no decisions out of anger or based on what is being said on social media. Decisions taken out of haste and anger generally lead to more complications and I don’t want that in our cricket,” he added.

Furthermore, Naqvi mentioned he is consulting with former players who genuinely want to improve Pakistan cricket.
“I have been in the board for four months and I am looking at everything and believe me there is a lot to be done to improve things within the PCB besides the team. But I don’t want to jump to conclusions and make hasty decisions,” the chairman concluded.
Following their disappointing T20 World Cup performance, Pakistan is set to play their next white-ball series against Australia in November.
