According to reports from Cricbuzz, the BCCI has instructed cricketers like Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer to immediately join their state teams for the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly issued a prompt directive to several cricketers, including Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, and Shreyas Iyer, requiring them to immediately join their respective state teams for the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy. This decision follows concerns that these players were neglecting domestic cricket while awaiting the start of IPL 2024.
As reported by Cricbuzz, the BCCI communicated this mandate via email to ensure discipline and commitment among the players. Almost all players not currently in the national squad or undergoing injury rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore have been notified. They are now expected to join their respective Ranji teams for the upcoming round, starting on February 16.
A BCCI official emphasized the importance of prioritizing domestic commitments alongside international and IPL obligations, urging players to fulfill their responsibilities to their state teams.
“Players cannot simply prioritize international cricket or the IPL. They must make themselves available for domestic cricket and honor their commitments to their respective state teams,” a BCCI official said.
During India’s South Africa tour, Kishan took a break but drew criticism for skipping the Ranji Trophy. Reports indicated he practiced in Gujarat with Krunal and Hardik Pandya.

Iyer’s exclusion from India’s squad for the last three Tests against England was unexplained, but the media attributed it to poor form and failure to score in the first two Tests. It’s uncertain if Hardik will join his Ranji team despite not being at the NCA.
