Former South African cricketer Rusty Theron accused Pakistan’s Haris Rauf of ball-tampering during the USA’s T20 World Cup win.
Pakistan’s woes continue at the T20 World Cup 2024. Following a humiliating defeat against the USA in their opening match, pacer Haris Rauf now faces serious allegations of ball-tampering.
Former South African cricketer Rusty Theron, currently a member of the USA national team, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Rauf of tampering with the ball during the match.
Rauf had a rough patch with the ball, conceding 37 runs in 4 overs and taking only 1 wicket. Theron alleged that Rauf scratched the newly changed ball with his thumbnail in an attempt to reverse swing and deceive the American batters.
“ICC are we just going to pretend Pakistan aren’t scratching the hell out of this freshly changed ball? Reversing the ball that’s just been changed 2 overs ago? You can literally see Harris Rauf running his thumbnail over the ball at the top of his mark. @usacricket #PakvsUSA,” Theron wrote on his social media platform,” Rusty wrote on his Twitter handle. While no official complaint has been lodged by the USA team as of yet, the accusation remains serious.

Adding to Pakistan’s troubles, captain Babar Azam criticized his bowlers’ performance in the post-match press conference. “We are better than that in bowling, we were not able to take wickets in the first six overs. In the middle overs, your spinner is not taking wickets then pressure is on us. After 10 overs, we did come back but I think the way they finished game in the Super Over, the credit goes to the US team,” the skipper said.
