BCCI confirms decision after new law

BCCI ended its association with Dream11 after the Online Gaming Bill 2025 was passed, with Saikia confirming the decision and Dream11 pledging compliance with the law.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially ended its partnership with fantasy sports giant Dream11 following the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 in both houses of Parliament on Thursday.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the development, making it clear that the board would stay away from such associations in the future. “BCCI and Dream 11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations ahead in future,” Saikia told ANI.

According to PTI, Dream11 and My11Circle together contribute around Rs 1,000 crore to the BCCI through title sponsorship of the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League. Dream11, in fact, holds a 2023–2026 contract worth USD 44 million (Rs 358 crore) as Team India’s title sponsor.

The new law, however, has imposed strict restrictions on real-money gaming. It states that “no person shall offer any, aid, abet, induce, indulge, engage in offering online money gaming services nor shall involve in any advertisement which directly or indirectly promotes any person to play any online money game.” The move has effectively cut off a major revenue stream for fantasy sports companies in India.

In response, Dream11 issued a statement saying, “We have always been a law-abiding company and have always conducted our business in compliance with the law. While we believe that progressive law would have been the way forward, we will respect the law and fully comply with the ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025’.”

Meanwhile, industry experts expect that individual endorsements by cricketers for such gaming platforms will also take a significant hit following the new law.
