BCCI To Announce Asia Cup Squad
The BCCI confirmed that India’s 2025 Asia Cup squad would be announced on August 19 in Mumbai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce India’s squad for the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday, August 19, in Mumbai. According to The Times of India, the selection meeting will see the presence of captain Suryakumar Yadav, who will fly in from the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to attend the discussions.
Following the meeting, chief selector Ajit Agarkar will address the media in a press conference, a practice he has followed during his tenure. This selection holds significance as it will provide early clues about the selectors’ and captain’s plans for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in the subcontinent.
“Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar,” a BCCI source told the publication.
India, placed in Group ‘A’ of the tournament, will open their campaign against UAE on September 10. Several key questions remain ahead of the announcement, especially regarding the inclusion of players from other formats. Names like Test captain Shubman Gill, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, and ODI No. 4 Shreyas Iyer have been performing consistently in their respective formats, and their potential inclusion will be a point of debate.

Rumours suggest Gill could be named vice-captain, which might mean a demotion for Axar Patel, who was Suryakumar’s deputy during the recent home series against England. If Patel, 31, retains the role, it could indicate that the team management views him as the likely successor to Suryakumar, who is currently 34. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is also considered a possible candidate for the role.
Another major talking point will be the availability of Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer missed the final Test in England, as expected, after confirming he would play only three Tests on the tour. However, his early departure from the squad has raised concerns about a potential injury setback. Ajit Agarkar is expected to give an update on Bumrah’s fitness and future plans.
