The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a grand prize of Rs 125 crore for the Indian cricket team following their historic victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The Rohit Sharma-led team clinched the title with a thrilling 7-run win against South Africa, capping off an unbeaten run throughout the entire tournament. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to social media on Sunday to congratulate the team and announce the hefty prize money.
In an official statement, Shah lauded the team’s “exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship” displayed throughout the competition. He further highlighted India’s achievement of becoming the first team in T20 World Cup history to win the tournament undefeated.
“This team truly embodies a rising, vibrant, and resilient India, asserting its rightful place in the world of cricket,” Shah stated. He credited the BCCI’s focus on talent identification and development for playing a part in the team’s success.
Shah praised the leadership of Rohit Sharma and the team’s overall performance. “They have faced and silenced their critics with stellar performances time and again. Their journey has been nothing short of inspirational,” he remarked.

Notably, BCCI President Roger Binny also acknowledged statements regarding the upcoming challenges for the Indian T20 team following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the format. Binny acknowledged the significant void these retirements create and the time it may take to find replacements. “There is so much talent in the IPL. A lot of cricketers are coming through but it is going to take some time to bridge the gap,” Binny concluded.
