The BCCI has dismissed Mohammed Shami’s claims of poor communication, stating that selectors were in constant touch and had full details of his fitness.
The uncertainty around Mohammed Shami’s continued exclusion from Team India has deepened. Shami was recently left out of the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa. Despite featuring for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and performing consistently, the selectors have opted against recalling him.
While Shami recently claimed there had been no communication from the management regarding his omission, a new report from PTI indicates otherwise. A senior BCCI official stated that the selectors and support staff have maintained constant contact with Shami. They had even urged him to join India’s Test tour of England earlier this year. Shami reportedly declined, citing workload management.
“There have been multiple times that national selectors and support staff from the BCCI Centre of Excellence have called to check on Mohammed Shami. The selection committee was desperate to get his services in England. Jasprit Bumrah could not have played more than three Tests. Who wouldn’t want a bowler of his calibre in English conditions?” the official told PTI.
The official further noted that BCCI’s medical and sports science teams possess detailed fitness reports.
“So the narrative that there was no communication with Shami isn’t an absolute truth. The sports science team also has his medical reports and whether his body will be able to take the rigours of international cricket,” they added.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami has opted out of the fourth round of the Ranji Trophy. Reports suggest that the 35-year-old has not been bowling long spells and often takes breaks during play. These observations have reportedly raised doubts among selectors about his ability to handle the physical demands.
