A BCCI official reportedly affirmed that despite Kohli’s break, he is performing well and emphasized that selectors base their decisions on on-field performance rather than social media memes.
Virat Kohli leads the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) batting chart with the Orange Cap, amassing 181 runs in three matches, albeit with a modest strike rate of 141.1. Despite initial doubts regarding his place in India’s T20 World Cup squad, Kohli’s recent back-to-back fifties have strengthened his chances.
Netizens are engaged in debates over Kohli’s form, with some questioning his strike rate and others lauding his innings. Viral memes poking fun at his strike rate have emerged, but a BCCI official stressed that selectors prioritize on-field performance over social media chatter.
Kohli’s recent performances, coupled with his experience, indicate potential improvement in his strike rate, assuring selectors of his worthiness for World Cup contention.
“See, it is just the beginning (of the league) and Kohli has started fine. He will improve his strike rate as well in the coming matches. As far as I personally feel, he will make it (to the World Cup squad). Selectors don’t go by social media memes. Cricket is played on the field not on social media platforms,” the BCCI official said to IANS, on the condition of anonymity.
