BCCI’s Invitation For Bidders

BCCI invited bids for new sponsorship rights after banning Dream11, with strict eligibility rules set for interested brands.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an open call for bidders to acquire lead sponsorship rights for its national teams after Dream11’s exit, following the Parliament’s recent ban on real money gaming.
The BCCI announced that the winning bidder will gain rights to sponsor both the Indian men’s and women’s teams. However, the governing body has set strict eligibility rules for interested brands under the Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI). Companies linked to the same industry as current sponsors are not eligible, while those associated with betting, online gaming, alcohol, tobacco, pornography, and cryptocurrency have been barred from bidding.
According to BCCI’s official release on Tuesday, September 2, each bidder must qualify as a “Fit and Proper Person.” To determine this, the BCCI may consider several factors, including:
-
not having been convicted by a court of a criminal offence or offences involving moral turpitude, economic offence or fraud;
-
not having any conflict of interest as per the BCCI Conflict of Interest Rules;
-
absence of conviction for any offence punishable with imprisonment for 2 (two) years or more in any jurisdiction;
-
absence of categorization as a wilful defaulter by the Reserve Bank of India; and/or
-
a Person having integrity and reputation.
The release further stated: “The BCCI reserves the right to reject any bid from any bidder which in the BCCI’s opinion and at its sole and absolute discretion does not satisfy these criteria.”

The list of prohibited brand categories under IEOI includes:
-
Alcohol Products
-
Betting or Gambling Services
-
Cryptocurrency
-
Online Money Gaming or any such activities prohibited under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025
-
Tobacco
-
any company likely to offend public morals, including pornography.
Interested parties must obtain the IEOI by September 12, 2025, while the final application process has to be completed on or before September 16. This timeline suggests that India will compete in the Asia Cup 2025 without a lead sponsor. However, if the process goes as planned, the national team could onboard a new sponsor just in time for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, starting September 30.
