The PCB has reportedly asked the BCCI to provide written proof if the Indian government refuses permission for the team to play in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought clear information from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled in Pakistan next February-March. There are rumors that India may not travel to Pakistan and is urging the ICC to adopt a hybrid model
According to a PCB source, the board demanded that the BCCI provide written proof if the Indian government denies permission for the team to travel, citing security concerns. The ICC’s upcoming annual conference in Colombo on July 19 will not discuss this hybrid model. The PCB also insisted that the BCCI must inform the ICC about its travel plans to Pakistan at least 5-6 months before the tournament, as reported by PTI.
“If the India government declines permission, it has to be in writing and it is mandatory on the BCCI to provide that letter to the ICC now. It is a fact that we are insistent that the BCCI must inform the ICC about its travel plans to Pakistan at least 5-6 months before the tournament and in writing,” the PCB source was quoted as saying by PTI.
Last year, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, opting to play their matches in Sri Lanka instead. In preparation for any similar situation, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has allocated extra funds to manage a potential split of the tournament.
“The ICC Management is recommending additional costs just in case it is necessary to play some matches outside Pakistan if such a situation arises later on,” the source added.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted a draft schedule to the ICC, which includes India playing all their matches in Lahore, including the semi-final and final. The India vs Pakistan match is set for March 1. The tournament will kick off in Karachi on February 19 and conclude in Lahore on March 9, with a reserve day for the final on March 10. Some matches will also be held in Rawalpindi. However, BCCI sources indicate there is currently no intention to travel to Pakistan, and the ICC’s additional budget is a precautionary measure for any necessary changes.
