The BCCI confirmed plans to raise the Asia Cup 2025 trophy row at the ICC meeting after the ACC ignored its complaint.

The controversy over India’s Asia Cup 2025 trophy handover has taken a new turn. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to escalate the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) failed to respond to its formal complaint.

The dispute began when India refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The Indian board made it clear that the team would not receive the trophy from a Pakistani government official due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations. The situation worsened when an official quietly removed the trophy from the presentation stage without any explanation.

BCCI Awaits Trophy Handover

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board had written to the ACC ten days ago but has yet to receive a reply. “We have approached ACC and we have sent a letter 10 days ago. There is no positive response. We are maintaining the same stand. Therefore, we will raise the issue at the ICC meeting, which begins on November 4 in Dubai. The trophy will come, and that is for certain, because this trophy has been won by India hands down. Only the timeline has to be fixed,” Saikia told ANI.

Saikia reiterated that India’s stance remains unchanged, saying, “If we had to take it from him, then we would have taken it on that day of the final. Our stance is evident: we are not accepting it from that gentleman. So, there is no change of stand on the part of BCCI. We are not accepting the trophy from the ACC Chairman, who is the Interior Minister of Pakistan. Therefore, it has to come but not from his hands.”

Reports suggest that Mohsin Naqvi, who carried the Asia Cup trophy to his hotel after the incident, is now ready to return it but only under one condition. He reportedly wants a formal ceremony where he can personally hand over the trophy and medals to Suryakumar Yadav’s team.

However, with political tensions between India and Pakistan still high, such a ceremony seems unlikely. The BCCI has criticised Naqvi’s actions and plans to ensure the trophy’s official handover through ICC channels.
