BCCI will soon meet with IPL owners to discuss plans for the upcoming mega auction, including player retentions, increased purse, and potential changes to the Impact Player rule.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to meet with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners on July 31st to discuss the much-anticipated mega auction. Key topics on the agenda include player retentions, auction frequency, increased player purses, and performance-based increments.
According to reports from the Times of India, sources indicate that teams might be allowed to retain a maximum of five or six players, a significant change from previous auctions. The frequency of mega auctions could also be extended from three to five years. Additionally, there’s a strong possibility of increasing the auction purse from Rs 90 crore to between Rs 130 crore and Rs 140 crore.
A new development could see franchises retaining two or three uncapped players under a separate category. Teams have invested heavily in developing young talent and are keen to retain these players.
The list of uncapped players who the franchises will like to hold on according to Times of India shares a plethora of domestic players. The Mumbai Indians have developed Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir and Akash Madhwal. Kolkata Knight Riders have Vaibhav Arora, Ramandeep Singh and Suyash Sharma. Punjab Kings have Harpreet Brar, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. Chennai Super Kings have Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjeet Singh and Sameer Rizvi. Sunrisers Hyderabad have Nitish Kumar Reddy, Abdul Samad. Royal Challengers Bangalore have Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Anuj Rawat and Mahipal Lomror and the Lucknow Super Giants will be keen to retain the pace duo of Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan.

Interestingly, the Impact Player rule, introduced in the previous season, is likely to continue despite criticism for discouraging all-rounders. It has, however, led to higher scores and provided opportunities for more players.
The 2022 mega auction allowed teams to retain four players, including a maximum of three Indians, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indians. This time around, teams might be given one Right to Match (RTM) card.
