BCCI Unveils IPL 2024 Residual Schedule: Ahmedabad and Chennai to Host Crucial Matches

BCCI has revealed the IPL 2024 residual schedule, with all matches set to be held in India, featuring playoffs in Ahmedabad and Chennai, ending in the final at Chepauk on May 26.

BCCI has unveiled the IPL 2024 schedule, confirming that all 74 matches will be held in India, with key matches in Ahmedabad and Chennai. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator are set for May 21 and 22 at Narendra Modi Stadium, while Qualifier 2 and the final will take place at Chepauk in Chennai on May 24 and 26 respectively. This decision aligns with expectations, with Chennai chosen for the final as it hosted last year’s finalists, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

After announcing the dates for the first 21 matches, the BCCI swiftly arranged the schedule for the subsequent games, beginning with the 22nd match on Monday, April 8.

Earlier, when speaking to Cricbuzz, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had dismissed any doubts, affirming that the IPL will be conducted entirely within Indian venues. Contrary to speculation, the second leg kicks off with Chennai Super Kings facing Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk, set for a night fixture.

Amidst security concerns due to the General Elections spanning from April 19 to June 1, the BCCI tactfully organized the IPL schedule, ensuring no overlaps with polling dates across various centers. Notably, Dharamsala and Guwahati will host IPL matches, serving as secondary venues for Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.

Meanwhile, Guwahati will stage two matches featuring Rajasthan Royals against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 15 and May 19. The league phase concludes with the RR-KKR match on May 19, followed by a one-day hiatus before the playoffs commence on May 21.
