Former Australia captain Michael Clarke slammed England player Ben Duckett’s comment that England deserved credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the third Test against India.
Ben Duckett is facing criticism after suggesting that England deserved credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting performance in the third Test against India in Rajkot. Following Nasser Hussain’s remarks, former Australia captain Michael Clarke joined in, reminding Duckett of Australian players known for aggressive strokeplay in Test cricket.

Despite England’s recent success with their aggressive batting approach under Ben Stokes’s captaincy and Brendon McCullum’s coaching, their strategy backfired in Rajkot, where India won by a massive 434-run margin.
When speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Clarke highlighted iconic Australian cricketers like Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting, implying that Duckett might not be fully aware of their impact on the game.
“He (Duckett) must have missed Australia for 20 years,” former Australia skipper Clarke said on ESPN Australia. “As a youngster, he must not know what Test cricket Australia played. Has he heard of Matthew Hayden, Michael Slater, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Adam Gilchrist? These guys used to smack it as good as everyone,” Clarke said.
“Because you play a reverse sweep or a switch hit or a ramp shot, that doesn’t mean you are batting aggressively either. Matthew Hayden just walked down the wicket and hit you straight over your head for a six. He didn’t have to play a ramp or a switch hit,” he added.
The fourth Test in Ranchi sees India leading 2-1, with Jasprit Bumrah released from the squad and KL Rahul still sidelined. Mukesh Kumar has returned to the squad as the teams prepare for the upcoming match.
