Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Ben Stokes’ first ball of the series after the former bagged a century.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma played an exceptional innings but got out on the very first delivery by Ben Stokes. The right-arm pacer dismissed Rohit Sharma for 103 runs on the second day of the fifth and final Test against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Sharma’s dismissal added a twist to a session dominated by the Indian batting duo of him and Shubman Gill. The Indian captain had just reached his 12th Test century and second of the series with a single off Tom Hartley when Ben Stokes, bowling his first ball in the series, dismissed him.

The ball had perfect length. Stokes angled the good length delivery on the stumps before the ball straightened off. It beat the outside edge of Sharma’s bat and dislodged the bails, leaving the batter and the entire stadium in disbelief. Stokes remained calm, casually walking back to his mark after taking the crucial wicket. Watch the video of the dismissal below:

However, Gill continued his impressive form and reached 100 two balls later in the next over. He lofted a boundary off Shoaib Bashir to complete his century before acknowledging the applause with a bow. The skipper’s impressive knock had laid a strong foundation for the Indian innings. On the first day of the match, Kuldeep and Ashwin’s outstanding bowling performance helped India dismiss England for 218 runs. With a good score on the board, India will aim for a dominant lead on the second day.
