The ‘Best Fielder Medal’, initially introduced during the World Cup 2023 and now rebranded as the ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’, returned to the Indian dressing room after India vs South Africa T20I series.
The ‘Best Fielder Medal’, which garnered widespread attention during the ICC World Cup 2023, has made a comeback in the Indian team’s dressing room. However, this time, it adopts a new identity – the ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’ – to commend players for their on-field contributions. Following India’s crucial 104-run triumph over South Africa in the decisive 3rd T20I, fielding coach T Dilip revealed this announcement in the dressing room, marking the conclusion of the 1-1 series tie.
Dilip highlighted three standout performers for their exceptional fielding efforts: Rinku Singh for his consistent effort and field awareness, Yashasvi Jaiswal for securing pivotal catches with precision, and Mohammed Siraj, whom Dilip commended for his outstanding fielding skills as a fast bowler, ultimately declaring him the deserving recipient of the medal.
“We talk about making a difference not just in one match but throughout the series. The perseverance with which he was going through the World Cup is still there. Every time he bowls, he comes back and dives and throws the ball. Today he made the difference in the field with the direct hit. Earlier, it was with his boundary line fielding,” said Dilip.
Siraj, delighted to receive the medal, expressed his prolonged wait since the World Cup. “Kabse Inteezar tha mujhe iss medal ka, World Cup se! (I have waited for so long; since the World Cup for this medal!),” Siraj happily remarked.
“I have received it today, the lesson for this is… Never Give up,” the impact fielder of the series added.
