Ravi Bishnoi opined Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma deserve a proper on-field farewell, and urged the BCCI to respect their legacy.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s sudden Test retirements in May left everyone surprised. Their announcement came only two weeks before the England series selection meeting. The decision followed India’s poor tour of Australia. Fans expressed disappointment at missing a chance to see them sign off in front of packed stadiums.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi admitted he too was surprised by the timing and manner of their exit. Kohli and Rohit had earlier stepped down from T20Is after the World Cup win in June 2024, with on-field farewells that felt more fitting. Bishnoi also urged the board to ensure the two receive a proper send-off in ODIs, stressing that their legacy deserves recognition.
“It is actually shocking, because you always want to see them retire from the field. For such big legends, you want them to leave while still being on the field, that looks much better. And what both of them have done for India, in my view, there is no one even close,” Bishnoi said on Game Changers podcast.

“You want them to get a good farewell, but maybe they will get that in ODIs as well whenever they leave, whenever they want to. Because no one can tell you when you will retire. But it was shocking when both of them retired, because suddenly you feel like two spots have become empty, who will come and fulfill that?” he added.
Notably, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are preparing for India’s ODI tour of Australia in October, which many expect to be their final series.
