In a recent development, Cricket Australia announced two warm-up matches for India A against Australia A ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Tuesday that India A will play two first-class matches against their Australian counterparts in preparation for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.
Schedule of the matches that will be played ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy:
1. October 31–November 3: Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay
2. November 7– November 10: Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
These matches will provide a valuable platform for emerging players from both sides to showcase their skills and potentially earn a Test berth.
“Hosting these A matches at these prestigious venues gives them significant importance. This will be a great opportunity for players from both teams to stake their claim for test selection,” said Peter Roach, CA’s Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling.
The Indian team will also have an internal three-day practice match at the WACA Ground in Perth on November 17. This follows a similar practice they employed during their previous Australian tour in 2020–21.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy itself will kick off with the first Test at Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 22. This marks a historic shift, as the series will be extended to five Tests for the first time since the 1991–92 season.
“Having the Border-Gavaskar Trophy run alongside the women’s ODIs and preceded by these significant A-team matches will be a fantastic experience for cricket fans in Australia,” Roach added.
It’s worth noting that the Indian women’s team will also be touring Australia during this period. Their second ODI on December 8th may coincide with the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
