Shoaib Malik’s Bangladesh Premier League contract has been terminated by Fortune Barishal following allegations of match-fixing, with suspicions arising after his underperformance.
BPL franchise Fortune Barishal terminated Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik’s contract under suspicion of match-fixing. Malik, returning to Dubai for personal reasons, faced scrutiny during a BPL 2024 match against Khulna Riders on January 22.
Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal introduced Malik as a bowler in the powerplay, where he unexpectedly bowled three no-balls, conceding 18 runs. The questionable over raised concerns of deliberate actions and fixing. Malik’s subsequent performance with the bat, scoring 5 runs from 6 balls in the death overs, intensified suspicions.
Days after the incident, Fortune Barishal terminated Shoaib Malik’s contract on suspicion of “fixing,” as confirmed by team owner Mizanur Rahman. This decision removes Malik from the ongoing league.
