Brian Lara predicted the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finalists, excluding Australia and Pakistan, and expressed hope for a West Indies vs. India final to redeem past disappointments.
Legendary cricketer Brian Lara has picked his four semi-finalists for the upcoming T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA next month. The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, featuring 20 teams for the first time, begins on June 2, with the final set for June 29. Lara hopes to see a West Indies vs. India final. The West Indies have previously won the title in 2012 and 2016, while India were the inaugural champions in 2007.
Furthermore, Lara is optimistic about the West Indies’ chances, citing their lineup of star players. Despite criticism over India’s squad selection, he believes India will reach the top four. Lara emphasized the importance of a strong showing, recalling the disappointment of India’s early exit in the 2007 ODI WC, which was felt deeply in the Caribbean. He hopes for a final that will make up for past disappointments.
“The West Indies should do well. They have a lot of individual stars and when they come together as a team they do well. India, with all their cry over selection, they find themselves in the top four. India and West Indies final is going to make up for so much wrong that has happened in the past,” Lara was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
“India missing out in 2007 in second round, that killed us in the Caribbean. We don’t want that to happen again. So, India and West Indies in the final and may the best team win,” he added.
