Jasprit Bumrah’s Message Lifted Cameron Green

Jasprit Bumrah’s message gave Cameron Green confidence before his surgery and helped him stay positive during recovery.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has shared a touching story about a message that made a big difference during a difficult time. On the night before his back surgery last October, Green received an unexpected message from India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah, who had undergone the same surgery 18 months earlier and returned stronger, reached out to Green during India’s Test series against New Zealand. The gesture carried great emotional value for the young Australian.
“That is really special. And makes you feel a lot better about it. I didn’t play with him in Mumbai but that was the connection through there. Spent a bit of time with him there. To get someone like him to reach out and then to watch him during the summer, to see how good he is obviously post-surgery, filled me with a lot of confidence,” said Green.
Green had joined Mumbai Indians in the IPL, which gave him the chance to bond with Bumrah. Though they didn’t share the field together, their connection stayed.
As quoted by Cricbuzz, Green said his injury gave him an unexpected opportunity to focus only on his batting, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
“The silver lining to having four back injuries is I’ve got four chances only to be a batter. I felt like my game’s always been good around those periods. So, that’s never to take away, I’m always going to keep bowling. But you’re so much more relaxed… It does take away from batting. So, certainly, just batting is nice,” he said with a smile.

Green has been training freely during his current stint in London. He looked in top form during his County Championship matches for Gloucestershire, which served as great preparation ahead of the upcoming World Test Championship final.
Looking back at his recovery, Green noted how medical advancements helped him recover faster than his Western Australia teammate Jason Behrendorff, who had gone through a similar surgery earlier.
“I think the procedure has changed definitely since Jason Behrendorff had his. I’ve got three scars, as they were able to miss the muscle a bit more, a little bit invasive as compared to Jason who only has one scar… I don’t think he could move for 7-8 weeks. He was going a bit like ‘Stuff you’,” Green said, laughing.
Now fully fit and motivated, Green is excited to return to his favourite gully position alongside teammate Beau Webster. His comeback journey, shaped by resilience and a timely message from one of cricket’s best, has inspired many.
