Cameron Green expressed his readiness to adapt to any batting position in Australia’s Test team ahead of a busy cricket schedule.
Australia’s all-rounder Cameron Green has expressed his readiness to adapt to any position in the Test side as the team gears up for a busy 12 months of cricket. Green, who has been a key player for Australia since his Test debut in 2020, recently moved up the batting order to No. 4. Earlier this year in March, he scored a century against New Zealand in that position while also taking three wickets in the series.
In a recent interview with Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, Green reflected on the competition for the No. 4 spot within the team. “There are about three or four guys who want to bat at four, that’s just the nature of international cricket. Everyone growing up bats at three or four their whole career. It’s only when you get to Australia level that you think, ‘gee, Steve Smith is a pretty good No. 4, and so is Travis Head, and Marnus could do it.’ I played in that position for my whole domestic career, so that’s the unfortunate nature of it. You have to fit everyone in, and not everyone can bat at four,” Green remarked.

Cameron Green also commented on the possibility of moving of positions. “We’ll have to wait and see. I think it’s totally up to Steve (Smith). He’s earned the right to bat where he wants, and whatever happens, I’m happy to move around him. He’s a great of the game, and he’s earned the right to choose his spot,” added Green.

While Green is open to the challenge of opening, he acknowledged it could be a significant adjustment, especially considering his role as a bowler. Green has claimed 35 wickets in 28 Tests, including a five-wicket haul against South Africa in 2022. “Opening would be a tough one, but not something I would say no to. We’ll see what the selectors decide, but I was open to it six or nine months ago,” Green noted.
