Carlos Brathwaite expressed frustration over a controversial dismissal but celebrated as the New York Strikers secured an eight-run victory later.
Carlos Brathwaite, popularly known for his heroics in the final of the T20 World Cup 2016, where he hit four consecutive sixes against Ben Stokes to lead West Indies to their second T20 World Cup title, has since transitioned to playing in franchise leagues and serving as a broadcaster. The all-rounder is currently participating in the Max60 Caribbean League, representing the New York Strikers.
In a recent Super Three game against the Grand Cayman Jaguars, Brathwaite’s frustration was evident when he was controversially given out against bowler Josh Little. On the third ball of the ninth over, Little delivered a short ball on the off-side, which Brathwaite attempted to pull. However, he was early on the shot, and the ball struck his shoulder before looping up to the keeper. Despite the ball not hitting the bat or glove, wicketkeeper Ben Dunk took the catch, and the umpire surprisingly gave Brathwaite out, likely thinking the ball had contacted the glove.
Visibly upset, Brathwaite reluctantly left the field, but not before venting his frustration. As he was about to exit the playing area, he took off his helmet and struck it forcefully with his bat, expressing his anger over the decision.
Despite the controversial dismissal, Brathwaite had reason to celebrate later, as the New York Strikers emerged victorious, winning the match by eight runs. With this win, the Strikers have advanced to the final of the tournament, where they will face the Caribbean Tigers, who have showcased dominating performances throughout the competition.
