The women’s cricket team was captained by Harmanpreet Kaur. They secured victories over Bangladesh in the semi-final and Sri Lanka in the gold medal match, held at Zhejiang University Oval in Hangzhou. India’s quarter-final match against Malaysia was canceled due to rain, and they advanced to the semi-finals due to their higher seeding. They successfully defended a total of 116 runs against Sri Lanka, sealing the gold medal in a thrilling match.
Likewise, the Indian cricket men’s team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad also commenced their campaign in the quarter-final round due to their superior seeding. They defeated Nepal by 23 runs in the quarter-final and bested Bangladesh by 9 wickets in the semi-final. The gold medal clash against Afghanistan was marred by rain, resulting in India being awarded the gold medal based on their higher seeding.
The Asian Games featured cricket for the third time in 2023, with previous appearances in 2010 in Guangzhou and 2014 in Incheon. Notably, Team India did not take part in either of these prior editions.
