Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara expressed disappointment over missing out on the Test team but said he remains motivated and ready through domestic and county cricket.

Cheteshwar Pujara remains focused on returning to India’s Test squad despite not being selected for the recent series. The veteran batter, who has played over 100 Tests since debuting in 2010, continues to perform in domestic and county cricket.

Since his debut against Australia 15 years ago, only Virat Kohli has scored more runs for India in Tests. Among players who debuted after Pujara, Kohli is the only one with more centuries in the format.

Pujara acknowledged the disappointment of missing out but stressed that his motivation remains high. The 36-year-old believes his passion for the game drives him to stay consistent without focusing on expectations.

“When one has been successful at the highest level and played more than 100 Tests and is still not a part of the team, you carry on the hard work that has been the reason behind getting the success,” Pujara said while speaking to RevSportz.

“Not getting the opportunity is a big disappointment, but I keep myself ready and motivated because of my love for this game. And out of that love, I keep myself close to the game and routine without expecting much and through any opportunity I get, be it domestic or county,” Pujara added.

Cheteshwar Pujara Stays Ready as India Squad Selection Nears

Cheteshwar Pujara added that he remains hopeful of a recall as India prepares to announce its Test squad for the England tour in two weeks. The veteran batter last played in the 2023 World Test Championship final at The Oval, after which he was dropped. In England, he has scored 870 runs in 16 Tests, averaging 29 with one century.

“Yes, of course, if the team needs and I get the opportunity, I am prepared from my end. I have been working on my physical fitness, performing well both domestically and internationally,” Pujara said.

India will face England in a five-match Test series starting June 20 at Headingley. With recent series losses to New Zealand and Australia, changes in the batting order are expected.
