England coach Jeetan Patel confirmed that Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson are nearing full fitness and could be available for selection in the remaining matches.
England’s spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel confirmed that Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson are fully fit and available for selection ahead of the third Test against India at Lord’s, starting July 10. Both fast bowlers were part of England’s squad for the Edgbaston Test but were not included in the playing XI.
Patel shared the update during the post-match press conference on day two, indicating that Archer had bowled with impressive pace during a practice session. Atkinson is also believed to have regained match fitness, increasing England’s pace options as they plan for the rest of the series.
“We’ve got some guys coming back into the squad. Namely, Joff bowled rockets at lunch today again, and Gus may be back at full fitness, and then you can start to rotate,” Patel told the media.
Patel Reflects on Brydon Carse’s Struggles
Jeetan Patel also reflected on Brydon Carse’s effort in the first innings, where the pacer returned with figures of 1 for 83 from 24 overs, including three maidens.
“Carse had two hard test matches, and fortunately, we’ve had a good break between the first and second Test, but it’s the beauty of having a battery of seamers,” he said.
