Batting coach Vikram Rathour expressed his hope for Virat Kohli to score more runs, noting that while it’s good to be challenged sometimes, he wishes for the star batter to improve his performance.
Team India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour, has expressed his concerns about Virat Kohli’s performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Despite India being unbeaten in the tournament, Kohli’s form has been a worry. In four games, Kohli has managed to score only 29 runs at an average of 7.25. Although India secured a dominant win against Afghanistan in their first Super Eight clash, Kohli’s contribution was just 24 runs from 24 deliveries.
Rathour acknowledged Kohli’s struggles and mentioned that it’s beneficial for players to face challenges. He highlighted that other team members stepped up and delivered strong performances, showcasing the depth in India’s batting lineup ahead of their next Super Eight match against Bangladesh.
“I’m not happy. I would love it if he gets going and scores more runs. But yeah, it is good when you are challenged at times. You know, the guys who are not getting too much of batting in India sometimes, they are the ones who put up scores today and our middle-order came to play. So, it was good to see,” Rathour was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
Rathour then highlighted India’s squad versatility as a key strength. In the group stage, India played three pacers and two spinners but switched to three spinners in their Super Eight match. The coach noted that India’s depth allows them to adapt to different conditions, favoring a mix of bowlers.
“We’ve always had depth as a team, I believe. But yeah, these conditions maybe suit us more because we can afford to play two or three spinners at times. So that I believe can be our best team. That is our strength,” he said.
“It feels like … somebody like Axar (Patel) playing at eight gives you a lot of confidence because he can bat and he’s bowling really well at the moment. So, it does give you a lot of options,” Rathour concluded.
