David Warner bid farewell to his illustrious 112-Test career with a striking 57-run innings against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as social media overflows with well-wishes and gratitude.
David Warner’s 112-Test career came to an end as he scored 57 runs in Australia’s victorious match against Pakistan at the SCG. In the final innings, needing just 11 runs for victory, Warner was at the crease, seemingly set for a fairytale conclusion.
However, an LBW decision after a DRS review halted his chance to hit the winning runs, ending his Test career on a slightly unexpected note.
Warner, emotional post-match, praised his family’s support and celebrated Australia’s 3-0 series win, hailing his teammates’ hard work. Expressing gratitude to the loyal home crowd for their decade-long support, he credited their unwavering encouragement throughout his cricketing journey.
“It’s pretty much a dream come true to win 3-0 and cap off what has been a great 18 months to two years for the Australian team. I’m just proud to be with a bunch of great cricketers. These guys — they work their backsides off. To come here in front of my home crowd and the support they have shown me and the team over the last decade of my career, I can’t thank them enough,” Warner said after Australia’s 8-wicket win in the series.
As Warner bid adieu to the red-ball cricket and walked out of the ground one last time, the Sydney Cricket Ground gave him a standing ovation. He leaves behind an impressive record of 8,786 runs scored at an average of 44.60, along with 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries. Known for his exceptional slip fielding, Warner also made 91 catches.
While Warner also retired from one-day international cricket recently, fans hope to see him continue shining in T20 matches.
