Despite making just 168 runs in eight matches in IPL 2024, David Warner is expected by former cricketer Aaron Finch to play in the IPL next year believing teams will value Warner’s experience.
Former cricketer Aaron Finch has expressed confidence that David Warner will continue to feature in the IPL despite a lackluster performance in IPL 2024, where Warner scored just 168 runs in eight matches. Finch, speaking to ESPNCricinfo, highlighted Warner’s experience and mentoring abilities as valuable assets for IPL franchises.
“A big auction is coming up next time (this year-end). I think there would be a team that would love to have his (Warner’s) experience, be it in playing eleven, or as a replacement or as someone to nurture younger talent,” Finch remarked, indicating that Warner could still have a role to play in the league.
“I would not say it is his last IPL game, but he has had a poor season,” he added, suggesting that Warner’s career in the IPL may not be over yet.
Meanwhile, Former teammate Michael Clarke expressed that David Warner may not command the same high price in the upcoming auctions due to his current performance levels not being at their peak. Clarke highlighted that while Warner’s value is recognized, his recent form might impact his auction price.
“He could get picked up at the auction, he just might not get the money he is used to. He is at that stage of his career when he is not performing at his absolute best and you cannot expect the same money. I would not be surprised if he is not picked up,” Clarke said.
Despite returning from a finger injury, Warner has faced competition for his spot in the XI, with Jake Fraser-McGurk often being preferred by Delhi Capitals in this season.
