England’s Dawid Malan believes India’s success in the T20 World Cup hinges on the BCCI’s selection decisions, citing the country’s abundant talent pool showcased in the ongoing IPL.
As the T20 World Cup 2024 approaches amid the Indian Premier League season, the spotlight shifts to the crucial squad selections. England’s Dawid Malan stressed that India’s success in the tournament boils down to making the right choices. In an interview with Linebat News, Malan underscored India’s abundant talent pool and asserted that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) holds the key to unlocking their potential.
“With the ongoing IPL, we are seeing the rise of several new Indian players making a mark and if the board makes the right choices there is enough and more talent to help India excel at the upcoming T20 World Cup,” Malan said.
Amidst debates over Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, his stellar performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing IPL have sparked discussions. Despite facing criticism for his century being the slowest in IPL history during a recent match against Rajasthan Royals, Kohli’s consistent run-scoring and leadership at the top of the order make him a strong candidate for the squad, according to Malan.

“Further, while Virat (Kohli) has been away from T20 cricket, his performances (in IPL) certainly show that he makes a strong contender for making the final team,” he added.
The BCCI will closely monitor the IPL to assemble a well-rounded squad for the T20 World Cup, aiming to secure the elusive title they last won in 2007.
