DC might get their key bowlers back in the camp and eye a strong comeback from their recent slump in IPL 2024.
According to head coach Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals (DC) could get back their key players Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar for their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 12th.
Both Yadav, a vital left-arm wrist spinner, and pacer Kumar have been sidelined with injuries. Yadav missed the last three matches due to a groin injury, while Kumar has been out for two matches with a hamstring injury.
“We’re hoping that they’ll both be available. Both of those guys are obviously first picked in our starting lineup, so the last couple of games we sort of haven’t been able to take part with our full-strength team. But they both trained strongly yesterday. Hopefully, we’ll keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully both those guys are fit for us,” said Ricky Ponting, as quoted by the Times of India. With the return of the key bowlers, Delhi might bounce back from their recent slump.
Apparently, the Capitals have only managed one win in their first five matches, and Ponting acknowledged their inconsistency. “Our best cricket has been really good, but three or four overs in almost every game have been the difference for us. We’ve conceded too many runs late in a couple of our bowling innings, and when we’ve had crucial run chases, we haven’t been able to quite nail them,” added Ponting.
Looking ahead to the LSG match, Ponting emphasised the need for improvement. “We know that we have to start playing our best cricket quickly. Our overall approach to the game hasn’t changed. We know the things we have to pay attention to; we know the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition team,” concluded the coach.
