As the Women’s Premier League 2024 approaches, the Delhi Capitals are intensifying their preparations to surpass their previous season’s runner-up position. Following her debut training session in Bengaluru, Captain Meg Lanning expressed her enthusiasm, noting the team’s impressive form and collective improvement.
Lanning led Delhi Capitals to a remarkable debut season in 2023, topping the league stage but narrowly missing the championship.
Reflecting on the inaugural season, she cherished the camaraderie within the team and the joy of opening the batting with Shafali. Lanning anticipates a similar cohesive spirit this year, emphasizing the team’s bond on and off the field.
“It’s nice to get out here, have a bit of run around. Everyone looks in really good nick. There is a lot of improvement from everyone, and I’m super excited to see what we can produce this year,” Lanning said.
“I loved the time last year. Opening the batting with Shafali was a lot of fun and it is something I’m looking forward to again this year. I think as a group, we gelled nicely. It was a very easy group, nice to hang out on and off the field, we seemed to be able to come together, so it was a lot of fun. I’m sure this year it’s going to be much the same,” she added.
With a notable T20I career tallying 3405 runs across 132 matches, Lanning retired from international cricket in November 2023. Expressing ongoing passion for the game, the 31-year-old eagerly anticipates the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.
With Delhi Capitals, she aims for victory, eyeing the WPL title. Their campaign starts against defending champions Mumbai Indians at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 23, 2024.
