Rishabh Pant was confirmed as Delhi Capitals’ top retention choice despite media reports suggesting his potential release ahead of the IPL mega auction.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to continue with Delhi Capitals, contrary to several media reports suggesting his potential release ahead of the upcoming IPL mega auction later this year. Sources have confirmed that Pant will remain the franchise’s top retention choice.
According to Cricbuzz, Pant is expected to be retained by Delhi Capitals following a recent meeting in Mumbai with co-owner Parth Jindal. The wicketkeeper-batter currently earns INR 16 crore, and his pay is likely to increase depending on the total player purse and retention policies set by the BCCI for the upcoming season.
Pant made a strong return to competitive cricket earlier this year during IPL 2024, leading the Delhi Capitals after a long injury layoff. The dynamic batter finished the season as the top run-scorer for DC, amassing 446 runs in 13 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 155.

During his rehabilitation, Pant worked rigorously on his fitness, which has been evident in his performances for India. After a stellar show in the 2023 T20 World Cup, he has continued his form in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, scoring 109 runs off 128 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and 4 sixes.
Delhi Capitals’ Probable Retentions for IPL 2025
While the BCCI has yet to release official IPL retention guidelines, reports indicate that if more than five players can be retained, Delhi Capitals are keen to hold onto key players like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Among overseas players, the franchise may retain talents such as Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs. Additionally, if allowed to retain uncapped players, the team is also looking to keep promising wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel.
