Tom Moody believes Delhi Capitals should capitalize on Jake Fraser-McGurk’s aggressive batting style by opening with him, emphasizing his aggressive approach.
Tom Moody highlighted Jake Fraser-McGurk’s bold approach in his debut for the Delhi Capitals, emphasizing his potential significance in the team’s playoff quest. Coming in at number three against Lucknow, Fraser-McGurk made an immediate impact by hitting a six off Yash Thakur’s second ball. He continued to showcase his aggressive batting, notably hitting a hat-trick of sixes off Krunal Pandya in the 13th over to reach his half-century. Fraser-McGurk’s innings of 55 runs from 35 balls concluded with a catch by Naveen-ul-Haq.
Moody stressed the need for Delhi Capitals to utilize Fraser-McGurk’s power-hitting, particularly in the power play overs, to secure crucial wins. He underlined Fraser-McGurk’s relentless nature, suggesting that his aggressive style could be a game-changer for the team’s success in the tournament.
“What we saw from Fraser-McGurk tonight. You want him to face every single ball in the power play because he’s got no off button and he’ll go and go hard. Yes, there’s a lot of experience there but there’s a huge amount of upside to what he can offer and Delhi are in a position where they need to just win games of cricket, so they need to risk their game to accumulate wins,” Moody said on Star Sports.
“They can’t play conservatively and expect to play finals from where there are, you know, played six games, only won two. So they need to play a really aggressive brand of cricket, and their mindset needs to be aggressive. Therefore, their selection and the way they structure their side needs to also back that philosophy. So, for me, Fraser McGurk needs to be batting at the top of the order,” he added.
Moody further highlighted the challenging situation for Delhi Capitals, who have won just two out of six games, stressing that they can’t afford to be complacent. Their next match is against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 17.
