The Delhi Capitals signed South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams as a replacement for Harry Brook, who withdrew from IPL 2024 due to a family bereavement.
In a recent development, the Delhi Capitals have signed South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams. Williams will replace DC’s batter Harry Brook for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Brook opted out of the tournament shortly before it started due to the passing of his grandmother. The Capitals had acquired him at the IPL 2024 auction for a hefty INR 4 crore. While they did not announce a replacement immediately, they have now secured Williams at his base price of INR 50 lakhs to fill the void left by Brook.
The 30-year-old Williams brings international experience to the Delhi Capitals camp. He made his debut for South Africa in 2021 and has represented the Proteas in all three formats: Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Across two Tests, four ODIs, and 11 T20Is, he has collected a total of 24 wickets (3, 5, and 16 wickets, respectively). His last international outing came in an ODI series against India in December 2023.
Williams’ strength lies in his ability to generate raw pace. He consistently clocks speeds around the 140 kph mark, making him a potent weapon in the bowling attack. Notably, he was even called up as an injury replacement for Anrich Nortje in South Africa’s squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup held in India.
Lizaad’s addition might be a significant strengthening of DC’s bowling squad as the team struggles in IPL 2024 with their slump. After Delhi’s recent loss to MI, the team will be looking forward to bagging their second win on April 12th against LSG.
