Dewald Brevis was ruled out of the Pakistan ODI series due to a shoulder injury, with Cricket South Africa confirming his focus will now be on recovery ahead of the India tour.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that young batting sensation Dewald Brevis will miss the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan after suffering a low-grade shoulder muscle strain. The injury occurred during the third T20I in Lahore, where Brevis appeared to be in visible discomfort while fielding.

Following medical assessments, CSA announced that Brevis will require rest and rehabilitation instead of immediate match involvement. The 21-year-old will now work closely with the Proteas medical staff to ensure his recovery is managed carefully.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 4, CSA explained that the primary focus is on having Brevis fit in time for South Africa’s upcoming tour of India, which includes a two-match Test series. The board noted that the tour will be physically demanding, especially for batters, and Brevis is seen as a crucial part of South Africa’s plans to build depth and stability in their Test lineup.

Replacement For Brevis Yet To Be Announced

Brevis’ replacement in the ODI squad will be named soon, with selectors currently assessing form, fitness, and balance within the team before the first match.

The young right-hander has quickly become one of South Africa’s most exciting emerging talents, representing the national side across formats in recent months. Known for his fearless batting and explosive strokeplay, Brevis has already drawn comparisons to AB de Villiers.

He also enjoyed a successful stint in the 2025 IPL season with the Chennai Super Kings, where he came in as an injury replacement and impressed with his performances.

While his injury comes as a setback for fans hoping to see him take on Pakistan in the 50-over format, CSA remains confident about his recovery and long-term prospects. The Pakistan ODI series will go ahead as planned, but Brevis will focus on regaining full fitness ahead of the high-profile Test series in India.
