Dhruv Jurel

India coach Ryan Ten Doeschate praised Dhruv Jurel as the standout performer in the West Indies series for his skill and team-first attitude.

India men’s assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate has highlighted Dhruv Jurel as a key positive from the ongoing two-Test series against West Indies. Jurel impressed with his team-first approach, focusing on match situations rather than personal milestones. He played due to Rishabh Pant’s recovery from a fractured toe.

Jurel scored 125 in the first Test in Ahmedabad and followed it with a 44 off 79 balls in Delhi. In the second match, he attempted an ambitious shot against spinner Roston Chase, resulting in his dismissal. Ten Doeschate praised Jurel’s composure and willingness to follow the team’s strategy.

“I think the first name that springs into mind is Dhruv,” ten Doeschate was quoted as saying by PTI.

“We always knew that he’s a quality player. Obviously, the 100 in the first Test and also the way he went about it yesterday. You know, no qualms about trying to push on. He could have got a not out there. He was on 44. The message went out. We’re going to try to clear it pretty soon. And it takes him on and gets out straight away. So, in terms of the culture, how we want guys to play, you know, playing for the team first, we’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen from him,” he added.

Reddy, Gill Among Bright Spots in India’s Performance

Ryan Ten Doeschate also praised all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and captain Shubman Gill. Reddy, playing his first home Test series, scored 43 off 54 balls. Gill’s captaincy continues to show growth, building on his strong performance during India’s England tour.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy getting a little bit of (batting) time in the middle was also important. I think Shubman’s captaincy is coming on nicely as well. It’s very important for a young captain. It was a very tough trip to England, where he excelled. I think he’s built on that just in the 10 days he spent together,” the coach concluded.
