Dinesh Karthik expressed concerns about calling Rishabh Pant India’s greatest wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, highlighting the significance of MS Dhoni’s legacy.
Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has raised concerns about calling Rishabh Pant India’s greatest wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket, arguing that such comparisons undermine the legacy of MS Dhoni.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said, “It’s very unacceptable to say that he’s played 34 Tests and he’s already India’s greatest wicketkeeper-batter. Let’s take time, let’s not jump to conclusions, but he’s definitely on course and will finish as India’s greatest ever wicketkeeper.”
Karthik also emphasized Dhoni’s contributions, both as a wicketkeeper and a leader, adding, “Don’t discount Dhoni’s credentials as a wicketkeeper. He not only kept brilliantly and batted when it mattered but also led India to the World Test Championship mace, becoming number one. So, you have to give that weightage when you speak about a player all-round.”
“I Want To Be Myself”: Pant Addresses His Comparison With Dhoni
Pant has been one of India’s most successful Test wicketkeeper-batters since his debut, scoring 2,419 runs in 34 matches at an average of 44.8. Marking his return to Test cricket, Pant delivered a stellar performance in India’s 280-run win against Bangladesh in the first Test, scoring his sixth hundred.

Addressing the comparisons with Dhoni, Pant made it clear that he is focused on carving his own path. Speaking to JioCinema, Pant said, “This is CSK’s home ground. Mahi bhai has played a lot of cricket here. But, for me, like I have said before, I want to be myself. I don’t focus on what’s being said or what’s happening around me. I keep things simple and focus on giving my best. The atmosphere here was amazing, and I really enjoyed it.”
