Dinesh Karthik lauded Yash Dayal’s bowling in the final over, which contained CSK with a lucky replacement ball after MS Dhoni hit a six outside the stadium.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a thrilling victory and a crucial playoff berth in their IPL 2024 encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday night. The match hung in the balance until the final over, with CSK needing 17 runs to qualify for the playoffs based on their net run rate.
A stroke of luck turned the tide in RCB’s favour when MS Dhoni launched a full toss from Yash Dayal for a six in the 20th over. However, the ball landed outside the stadium, necessitating a replacement. This new ball, according to Dinesh Karthik (RCB wicketkeeper batter), proved to be “much better to bowl with.” Dayal capitalised on the change, conceding only one more run in the final over and claiming Dhoni’s crucial wicket.
The victory not only secured RCB two points but also pushed their net run rate above CSK’s, ultimately granting them the final playoff spot despite both teams finishing with the same points total.
Karthik, during his post-match dressing room speech, acknowledged the significance of the win. “I thought the best thing to happen today was Dhoni hitting that six outside the ground,” Karthik quipped during his dressing room speech after the match. We got a new ball, which was much better to bowl with,” quipped Karthik.
He also commended Dayal’s bowling in the final over and offered a lighthearted suggestion. “And… Yes. Yash, that was good bowling. If you have a doubt, always bowl a high, hip-high, full-toss, on-leg stump. Wherever he is, it’s a good mantra to follow when the ball is wet,” added Dinesh.

Karthik further emphasised the importance of the CSK clash. “We all know how proud our franchise is and how our fans are. I think we gave them a treat to watch. Also, you’ve got to understand the gravity of this game. CSK-RCB has been one of the marquee games of this tournament for many years now,” added the wicketkeeper.
“Today, the way we played, I think, coming into this game, there was this quiet sense of confidence about us playing the defending champions. And the way we came and played, we should be really proud of ourselves right up to the last ball,” concluded Karthik.
